Long breaks can be the perfect time to relax, but they don’t have to mean giving up on staying active! Whether you’re stuck inside or enjoying the cold weather outdoors, coaches have tons of cool ways to keep you moving, even in winter. Here are some of their top strategies to stay active and motivated:
- Make It a Winter Sports Adventure
Winter is the perfect time to try out some exciting new sports! It is perfect time to try something like skiing, snowboarding, or even ice skating. Coaches/teachers could organise trips to skii school adventure. If it’s not an option due to high costs, if there’s snow, you can simply grab a sled and race down the hill. If not, go for a fun winter hike. - Set Fun, Achievable Goals
Keeping your fitness goals small and fun helps you stay motivated. Coaches/teachers could recommend setting daily or weekly goals like “Today I’m going to learn a new trick in my sport” or “I’ll skate for 30 minutes on the rink.” Setting goals is a great way to track progress and keep you excited to keep moving! - Turn Workouts Into Games
Want to keep it fun and competitive? Coaches /teachers could suggest turning workouts into games! If possible, create an own winter-themed obstacle course, play snowball dodgeball, or challenge each other to ice skating races. The more games you play, the less like exercise it feels! - Challenge Friends to a Virtual Fitness Race
Even if you’re not together, coaches/teachers know the power of a little friendly competition. You can compete to see who can take the most steps or do the most push-ups. Use a fitness app to track your progress and challenge each other during the break. - Mix in Mindfulness and Stretching
Winter break is the perfect time to relax your body and mind. It is recommended mixing in some yoga or stretching, especially if planning on hitting the slopes or doing any other winter sports. Stretching before and after can help stay injury-free and keep feeling relaxed and flexible. - Keep It Social
The best way to stay motivated is to work out with friends! Set up group activities, whether it’s a virtual workout session or a fun outdoor adventure. Gather for a snowball fight, a winter hike, or a game of ice skating tag. Having people to cheer you on makes everything more fun!
This winter break, don’t let the cold weather stop you from having fun and staying active! With a little creativity and a lot of energy, you can make the most of your and your student’s/atheltes’ time off.
Grab your gear, invite your group, and let’s get moving—winter sports style!
